Reza Najafian MD Plastic surgeon Eugene Oregon

About Dr. Najafian

I was born in the beautiful city of Isfahan, Iran.

Isfahan is the third largest city in Iran with over 2,000,000 population and thousands of years of history. It used to be the capital for many years and now is known to be the cultural and historical capital of Iran.

Growing up in Isfahan, it was hard not to fall in love with art. I played 3 Persian music instruments with many live performances and recordings starting when I was 9 years old.

Then, I fell in love with photography and tried different genres of photography (street photography, portraits, industrial photography, photojournalism, landscape and wildlife) and established a photo club in Isfahan that is still active with hundreds of very talented and successful photographers. As a matter of fact, most of the photos on this website are taken by me!

I also enjoyed painting and reading Persian literature and writing poems (almost every Persian is a poet at some point! And all these happened as I was growing up to become a “doctor” like my two older sisters!

There was no better choice to stay artistic and practice medicine than become a “ Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon”!

After finishing medical school at one of the top medical schools in Iran (IUMS), I worked in remote areas of Iran as a primary care and then as an emergency physician. This gave me the opportunity to give back to the community in need and also taught me to look at every patient as a whole not just one single medical or surgical problem.

During my medical school, I was actively involved in medical research and I graduated medical school with 8 publications in prestigious medical journals and many national and international presentations.

Then, I moved to the US and started a post-doctoral research fellowship at the most prestigious medical institutions in the world, “ the Johns Hopkins Hospital” in Baltimore, Maryland.

During that time, I published over 40 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, abstracts and presented my research at national and international meetings. It also helped me to better understand medical research, differentiate what is genuine and better apply the most recent scientific findings into my practice.

This was followed by general surgery training at the best general surgery program in the US, where the world leaders of surgery take on the most complex patients from all across the world.

PS: In case you are wondering, I am the 5th from left; and yes I used to have a goatee!

On my westward move, I moved to Portland to continue and finish my training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at OHSU.

At OHSU, I had the unique opportunity of performing a wide variety of plastic and reconstructive surgeries including cosmetic, hand, craniofacial, gender affirming, micro and super-micro surgery, cancer and trauma reconstructions and peripheral nerve surgery.

During my residency, I had the pleasure of working with past president of the Aesthetic Society, and a world known plastic surgeon, Dr. Mark Jewell and joined his private practice here in Eugene, Oregon in 2022.

Following his retirement, I started my solo private practice at Reza Najafian MD PC plastic and reconstructive surgery in January 2024.

I am in love with Oregon, and consider it my new home forever.

I love outdoors, hiking, running, photography and cooking and rockhounding and wine tasting!

I have the best team! Becky and Amy are two of the most committed, compassionate and professional people I have ever worked with. Together, we are committed to provide the best and safest care to our patient.

Here you can read some of our patients’ experiences.

I am a true believer in the critical role of high quality research in medicine.
